Can't hear anything on RX2

Postby JJ4SDR » Tue Dec 06, 2022 10:27 pm

Trying to learn how to use RX2 for the first time. Not sure why I am not hearing anything on RX2. I use VAC1 for my audio.

I assume that I would need to configure VAC2.

You left out some key info. So you mentioned VAC2, are you using VAC to get audio out on RX1 also?

How do you have your antenna feeding RX2? Do you have a spectrum display on RX2?

If you are using VAC for audio, then you need to know that VAC1 only carries RX1 audio and VAC2 only carries RX2 audio.

I use VAC1 for audio on RX1. I use a DAW to process SSB audio and it is routed to the ANAN after that (US/Audio interface).
Surely I can have 2 receivers on the same band as in some cases a SPLIT operation may call for an off-set
of 10s of kHz. So, I am using the same antenna in that case and as I am "auto muting RX2 during TX", there shouldn't be any problem, right?
To configure VAC2, I am not sure if the Driver and Input and Output devices need to be different from those defined for VAC1?

Most certainly yes, and if you are using ASIO on VAC1 you cant use ASIO on VAC2.

Lots of info about all this in the forum.

I use Voicemeeter to route both VAC 1 & 2 audio where I want it. You can mix it in Voicemeeter or in your DAW.

I'm probably going to move this topic to the virtual audio sub-forum.

Thanks for the responses Gary and Scott. I don't use Voicemeeter so I will need to configure VAC 2 differently from VAC1.

Can someone send me a link to the relevant thread?

Thanks!

There's no one master thread on this.

You can start by reading the VAC tutorial in this sub-forum (I've moved the topic as promised). It's a little dated but still has some good, basic info.

You will find that nearly all DAWs (all that I'm aware of) can only attach to a single device. This may preclude you from using a DAW for mixing VAC1 and VAC2. I use Voicemeeter because it is an excellent patch panel between Thetis VAC1 and VAC2 and a DAW.

If you need synchronized audio between VAC1 and VAC2 that will force you to abandon ASIO on VAC1. If you are listening to two different things and don't need synchronized audio then you can use ASIO on VAC1 and whatever else you want besides ASIO on VAC2. WDM is the fastest choice after ASIO.

"Surely I can have 2 receivers on the same band as in some cases a SPLIT operation may call for an off-set of 10s of kHz."

If this is what you want to do you don't need to use RX2 at all. Just set SPLIT and then use Multi-Rx to listen to your transmit frequency as well as receive.
