I overheard a QSO today where one guy was claiming that his SunSDR's 24-bit audio processing produces discernibly better sounding receiver audio than his ANAN 7000DLE.
Just curious whether there's any arguable foundation to that statement, or is it just wishful thinking?

It really seems unlikely. The audible difference between 16 and 24 bits is nil even with the best source material. With the source material available from an HF receiver it's hard to imagine that there could be any audible difference.

The most important thing that any ham can do is to use a better transducer than the nasty little speaker that exists within their radio. Or even outside their radio, i.e. anything less than a legit, self-powered, studio monitor is simply not worth the time or money. You can get a pair of powered monitors for $100 that will sound infinitely better than a single $200 speaker from Heil, Icom, etc.
