200D-7000 DLE mkII

Postby dsan65 » Wed Feb 23, 2022 5:53 pm

Are there any comparisons of these 2 rigs anywhere, I used to own a 200D it was an awesome radio, sold it to try a different radio, now thinking about getting a 7000 DLE MKII and looking to find out what the difference is, I tried google, as well as some of the other forums
Thanks!

Not a firmware topic, should not be in a firmware sub-forum...moved to here.

The differences are subtle.

There are, of course, the obvious mechanical differences in terms of the connectors on the rear panel. All of the same signals are there, and they all work the same way, but you no longer have access to line out audio. Those line outs are in the box, but they are not brought out to the rear panel.

If you had a 200D with the Rev. 24 RF card, again all of the RF switching works exactly the same as it did on your 200D.

In your 200D you had an Orion SDR card. In the 7000 that is an Orion MKII. Again the differences are subtle, but the RF spec's for both receive and transmit are a little bit better in many categories. It's all little differences, though, like a 14dB ADC preamp vs. a 20dB preamp, slight rearrangements of the board layout, things like that.

The same for the RF card, subtle, small changes that have improved things just a little bit. The biggest change here is you now get a preselector for the second ADC.

Bottom line: if you ran the 200D and the 7000 side-by-side using PowerSDR they would seem nearly the same to you, but your receiver would be a bit better, and the transmitter would be a little more linear.

However, if you've been out of the game for a while, what will really blow your mind are the new features in the new software, Thetis, and the matching new features in the new firmware, called "Protocol 2". Thetis will run with the old firmware, and new 7000's are being delivered with the old stuff installed, so to really unleash the full potential you have to load the new firmware when you get it. Note that you don't have to have a 7000 to run Thetis, it will run just as well with a 200D, as will the new firmware.
