Historical model differences? Is there a matrix anywhere?

Postby kc2rgw » Sun Nov 07, 2021 2:01 pm

It may exist and I just haven't seen it, but is there a matrix somewhere that describes the feature and component differences between the models over the history of them?

e.g. A buddy has a blue face 7000, what is the difference with that one and the 7000 dle mkII black face if any?

I get a lot of questions from people about the 100D, the 200D etc etc and haven't seen a page that walks through the differences as they have incremented.

That brochure is, unfortunately, as good as it gets, but it leaves out a ton of stuff:

The ANAN-10E, which was a lower cost version of the ANAN-10, using a smaller, less expensive FPGA, and a less expensive 14 bit ADC
The ANAN-100B, which was the 100W version of the ANAN-10E
The evolution of the PA/RF cards in the 100D and 200D from Revisions 15 and 16 to Revision 24
The 8000 and 7000 variants.

Another way to look at it is by the SDR card used:

-10, -100: 16 bit Hermes
-10E, -100B: 14 bit Hermes with smaller FPGA
-100D: Angelia
-200D: Orion
-8000, -7000: Orion MKII (but there are a variety of minor revisions of this card involving fan control and now voltage/current monitoring)

From an RF perspective all 7000 variants are nearly the same. I'm going to try to give laydown of the evolution of the 7000 but this will probably have a few errors. Please chime in with additions and corrections.

- The ANAN-7000DLE first shipped in Nov 2017. It had a "square wave" PWM fan controller that some found noisy and external fan connector. The case was similar to the 200D and had a blue face. Production of this variant has ended.

- The ANAN-7000DLE MKII first shipped in early 2019. It could be ordered with an i5 NUC, i7 NUC, or no internal PC. The case was large with a silver face and handles, reminiscent of the 8000. It had a large internal heatsink and revised PA board that claimed improved duty cycles and RX/Tx isolation. The PA board also implemented a TX step attenuator to improve TX SNR performance. Rear IO panel had support screws installed. It is reported to have a reduced noise PWM fan controller. Production of this variant has ended.

- The ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition first shipped in Dec 2019. No internal PC available. The case is smaller, reminiscent of the original blue 7000DLEs. No fan controller. Early units shipped with an external fan connector, newer units do not ship with this connector. Other than these differences it is functionally identical to the silver 7000DLE MKII's. It has been reported that due to parts obsolescence the voltage/current sensing ADC part number has changed on the most recent deliveries and the software (Thetis) has not caught up to that change yet.

The Blue 7000DLE has a 30 watt max limit on RTTY,FM, digital and AM and I am assuming all digital modes.

The Black 7000DLE MKII has the full 100 watt limit on RTTY, FM, digital and and 30 watts carrier ( 100w PEP ) AM

Silver is the same as black.

ETA:
Well found the manuals:

ETA2:

Well now I am really confused.

2 quotes from the 7000DLE BLUE user manual.

Under HEAT DISSIPATION
The ANAN-7000DLE BLUE should not be operated at greater than 30% of it's rated power when used for extended duty cycles such as digital, RTTY, AM, and FM operation

under SPECS:
RF Output Power: 100W SSB, CW, FM, RTTY, Digital; 1-30W AM

So first under HEAT DISSIPATION it says limit RTTY and digital to 30 watts, then under SPECS it says 100 watts RTTY and Digital, even FM
( AM is always 30 watts because it is referencing CARRIER power and 25 watts carrier with 100% modulation is 100 watts PEP

The 7000DLE MKII SILVER, only has this:

Under SPECS:
RF Output Power: 100W SSB, CW, FM, RTTY, Digital; 1-30W AM

So can the Blue do more than 30 watts digital or not?
Anybody know?
