Slave RX1 and RX2 AF?

Postby w3ub » Thu Dec 17, 2020 10:59 pm

Hi,

When using diversity and tuned to the same frequency, is there some way to slave the AF levels of RX1 and RX2 together to one control?

When the Diversity (really coherent beamforming) function is enabled, there is only a single composite receiver formed using the vector sum of both RX1 and RX2, that sum includes phase and amplitude offset factors on the non-reference receiver. As a result there is only a single audio stream available at the output of the receiver and that audio is carried on the RX1 audio output. So what you are asking is not relevant to the use of Diversity.

Or do you mean some form of real diversity, such as spatial or polarization diversity where you are manually selecting between RX1 and RX2? If you mean this, then unfortunately it is not a feature of the software to be able to lock those two controls together.

Aaaaha ... I think I got it, which makes sense.

So, just to be clear, when using diversity with RX1 as reference, there is no need to even enable VAC on RX2 or use the RX2 audio in any way. Right?

Thanks!

Correct. In fact you cannot enable RX2 separately with Diversity enabled because it is taken over by Diversity.

Have you read this post: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2362 ?

Yes, but I missed that little detail ... although it makes perfect sense.

Thanks again,
Doug
