I have had my 7000 DLE for one week and have been unable to get it up and running. I think the firmware was not installed.. I have been unable to get bootloader to run correctly. Sometimes it goes to 20% fast and to 40 in 5 minutes, and sometimes it goes to 60% and stops ...one time to 80%,,but never 100% finished. Not sure what to do , any ideas. It does seem odd that some radios were loaded ? Allan W8AJ

Wow, this is starting to sound bad.

Anyone else have a report like this?

If these shipped with no firmware it might even be possible they shipped without a Bootloader image in them, too.

Ok,

All radios are shipped with the Bootloader and Firmware installed, there is no way the factory can test the radios without both installed!

In fact the factory installs the bootloader and then uses it to install the appropriate firmware so it is not possible for any radios to ship without both the bootloader and the firmware installed.

Just so we are on the same page:

1. Which version of the Bootloader are you using please?
2. Which Firmware?

The factory is using this version of the bootloader:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Proto ... loader.msi

Firmware:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmw ... -Andromeda

Please use the MKIII firmware if your radio shows a s/n higher than DX8300497A.

I have tried loading the firmware using the above version of the bootloader on a number of MKIII cards several times without any issues.

BTW it is also best to connect the Rig directly to the PC/Laptop when using the bootloader.

Let me know how you go.

In both cases, dieseldawg and Apache2623, Bootloader is discovering the hardware and starting the programming process. This implies that:

- The Ethernet connection to the 7000 is OK
- The hardware was restarted with the Bootloader switch in the correct position

Abhi has pointed to the same version of Bootloader that is referenced in the detailed instructions provided at this link. If those instructions are being followed then that shouldn't be an issue either. If they aren't being followed that might be part of the problem.

Could it be an obscure problem like some people experienced during a previous board revision with a different memory IC, where a jumper was not properly installed? As documented here.

Sometimes just programming device appears ...and stays, other times it shows 20% ...it goes to 80 % and stays. Every time It's run is different, It has finished , however the white block asking if the radio or connection is good pops up, or if it does not there is no signal activity. .The firmware reads OrionMK11 Protocol 1 Ver 2.7., but changes to protocol 2 or 1 with no version. NPCAP was loaded. Could there be a jumper problem in the radio? I am not sure what to do next.

This is going to turn into a thread about "fixing Apache2623's radio problems", instead of the main topic which is to document the hardware/firmware changes on the MKIII.

@Apache2623 -- please start a new topic. Call it "Can't get my new 7000 to work". Then we'll pick up this conversation there. @ dieseldawg you are welcome to join into that topic as well.

Do we have any updates about P2 for the "part change" radios?

Yes. You should monitor the Active Topics link, which is available from the "hamburger" menu icon at the opt left of every page. If you do, you'll see a new topic about that started yesterday.

Just when you thought things couldn't get more confusing:

I had a long QSO this morning with David WB5QFZ who just received his new 7000DLE MKII on Friday. It had been on order from HRO since January! It came with P1 firmware installed, version 2.7. This means it has an Orion2 board NOT an Orion3.

So, heads up :-)

What does Thetis show as the P1 firmware version on a brand new, factory fresh, 7000 with the Orion MKIII?

I wonder what his serial number is, hope it doesn't break the:
MkIII is S/N DX8300497A and higher
rule.

BTW, I loaded the P1 F/W Metis_Orion_MKIII_rev5.rbf on my MkIII and Thetis
displays: (Protocol 1 v2.7)

Holy Smoke!
I will email WB5QFZ and get his serial number. He must have a MkIII board, in spite of what Thetis displays?

It looks like the F/W version number for MkIII Protocol 1 is the same as MkII, v2.7
having just looked at the source code.

The filename (Metis_Orion_MKIII_rev5.rbf) rev5 is an internal revision that Joe seems
to have used while developing the MkIII Protocol 1 F/W and has nothing to do with
the actual F/W version.

Rick,
His serial number is 534A.
So, the rule seems to hold, and he must have an Orion MkIII board after all.
Whew!

73!

Thanks for checking.

Man, that is U.G.L.Y. It should be a different version. That is going to make for some confusion down the road, guaranteed!

Just received my 7000 from ML&S, serial number DX8300535A indicating that it is a MkIII

My email to support:

I've just received my new 7000, serial number DX8300535A which is a Mk3.

There is some debate about whether the new chipset is Gigabit network capable, required for the higher RX and TX sample rate transmission under protocol 2.

Certainly this unit only connects at 100M to my gigabit switch.

I'm happy to wait for protocol 2 firmware, but if the hardware is not gigabit network capable, that would seem to remove the benefits of protocol 2 and future Thetis enhancements.

In summary, I'm unclear if protocol 2 firmware which Doug says is coming will also enable the gigabit networking, or even if this is possible.

Clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Great news! Their response

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your email,

Yes, the hardware is Gigabit capable and protocol2 Gigabit beta firmware is now also available, see below:
