Brand new 7000DLE

Postby MichaelCaditz » Mon Oct 24, 2022 4:50 am

I just received a brand new 7000DLE beginning of October, 2022. Firmware shows in Thetis as "Ver. 2.7", Protocol 1.

I would like to run protocol 2 and have the latest firmware. How can I tell which is the correct protocol 2 file for my hardware? I've been reading about problems matching newer hardware with firmware.

Check your serial number. If it is in the range denoted by this topic

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4292

Use the firmware found there.

If it's an older serial number, go here

Thanks for the information. I have the newer unit so I downloaded the appropriate firmware, and installed npcap v.1,71, and HPSDRBootloader v2.0.4.4

Unfortunately, the HPSDRBootloader doesn't work on my Windows 11 computer, Although I run it as Administrator, when I click "Test for Bootloader" I get the message "Error: cannot open interface (are you running as root)."

So I used HPSDRProgrammer v. 2.0.4.0 and it seems to have worked. (Although HPSDRProgrammer did not rediscover the device, after pressing "Discover" multiple times.)

However, the HPSDRProgrammer by Dave, KVØS - Version 0.2.7, Protocol >1.7 - Last Updated 2016-8-13 seems to discover the radio.

If you read the instructions here:

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2333

you would know why that is the case.

As for the Bootloader, did you download the Windows version (the MSI file)? Because "are you running as root" is a Linux error message.

Yes. I downloaded HPSDRBootloader.msi . Apparently the developer retained Linux terminology in the Windows build. Perhaps that oversight is relevant to why it doesn't work . . . Or maybe it worked in earlier Windows versions, although I tried setting the properties to compatibility mode with Windows 8 but got the same behaviour.

Ok. That's interesting. This is the first report of any problem with Win11.

Have we had any positive reports, i.e., that it worked with Win 11?

People don't usually report normal behavior.

So they report abnormal behaviour, as I've done. It would be useful to hear from anyone else who has (or will) attempt to use HPSDRBootloader with the latest build of Windows 11.

I wouldn't be surprised if many hams don't keep up with the latest releases of operating systems. However, I'm a software developer and I keep up to date.

As a developer you'd be ideally suited to build Bootloader from source and see what's broken for you ;)

Not a bad idea. The first thing that has to go from the Windows build is the reference to "root."

I'll put that in my queue. I would like to contribute to the community.

Meanwhile, please note that HPSDRProgrammer v. 2.0.4.0 worked for me flashing from protocol 1 to protocol 2 on Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2 build 22000.1098.

If you do happen to work on it, please take out the annoying check for "metis" in the name of the file :)

Return to “Protocol 2 Firmware (all radios)”
