New 70000LE MKIII With Protocol 1

Postby KD1GA » Sun Jan 29, 2023 5:49 pm

FYI- I just received the above referenced radio and it came with protocol 1 installed. I'm guessing by reading through the posts and specifically the sticky this is not the norm. Anyway now that it's up and running with protocol 1, I guess ill update to two. Fingers crossed.

Apache always delivers with Protocol 1 installed. That's totally normal.

Okay thanks aa bunch thought I read they were shipping with 2. Having trouble loading protocol two with HPSDRBootloader ver. 2.0.4.4. Using Metis_Orion_MkIII_Protocol_2_v2.1.26c (1).rbf., Windows 11. Followed instructions here to a "T" I must of missed something. I tried through a dumb switch on the network and direct from PC, bootloader says, "Check that there is a jumper on J1 for Metis". I thought the newer radios didn't need to check jumper configuration and cant seem to find a switch on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the Bootloader switch is on the bottom of the 7000. Be gentle with it, they are delicate. Take care to mark the proper orientation of the switch for Normal and Bootloader modes. Don't forget to cycle power each time you move the switch.

I own an ANAN-7000DLE Marklll received mid-February 2023. Everything is working well using Protocol 1. I would really like to use Protocol 2. I have tried well over a hundred times to install Protocol 2 using the bootloader app. None of the P2 firmware versions I have tried work with my Marklll. The only version that partially works is the "26c". All of the transmit functions in Thetis through 2.10.0.0 seem to be "alive" with "26c"; however, nothing on the receive side functions at all. I have thoroughly checked for a firewall issue. The latest Metis_Orion_MkIII_P2_CV_21.7.rbf does not work for me.

I assume that my FGPA is the Cyclone V based on the case labelled "ANAN-7000DLE Marklll". I have considered opening the case to identify the FGPA inside. I am "chicken" to open the case, esp. under warranty. Is there an easy partial disassembly, just to take a look at the FGPA?

Is there a "known" Protocol 2 version bug that only applies to a small sub-set of Marklll owners? Is there possibly a database at ANAN identifying the FGPA for each serial number?

Thoughts please. :P

Hi Torrey,

Sorry to hear your having such trouble getting P2 to work with your MkIII.

You definitely have a EP4CE115F29C8N Cyclone IV series FPGA since the
"26c" version sort of works and Metis_Orion_MkIII_P2_CV_21.7 does not work.

The 26c is for the EP4CE115F29C8N Cyclone IV and would not work at all if
the FPGA was anything different.

(update) Plus you mentioned in this post:
https://community.apache-labs.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4530&p=23601

"I received my new 7000DLE MKIII today . Serial number DX8300595A. "

and as the next post below mentions to look at another post which says:

"Hardware using the EP4CE115F29C8N Cyclone IV series FPGA

- ANAN-7000DLE MKII serial number DX8300497A or higher "

Here are a few more firmware builds for the EP4CE115F29C8N Cyclone IV
you can try. Please continue to use the bootloader:

Thanks for your help Rick! I tried them all; but "no cigar". Thetis 2.10.0.0 does not recognize any of them.
For now I'll stick with your Protocol 1 version Metis_Orion_MkII_v2.8_P1_CV_N1GP_9.rbf. It's flawless!

Not aware of the ".26" series.
But you did try the ".27A/B/C/E/F/G" series, right? Those are the ones that work FB here on my EP4CE based Orion.
