Firmware fix for RF appearing on RX only ports

Below are links to firmware updates for the various ANAN radios.
Some have 2 or more images, try the others in case you have problems with
the 1st. Pay attention to the FPGA part number if you are updating
a MkIII.

This is a fix for a bug Richie has mentioned in the Thetis release notes and kept
track of here: https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis/issues/228

Please report issues back in this thread with ANAN model and issue(s).

Just released Thetis dev_2 which has changes related to this

Ran both 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 under dev_2 and didn't see any issues.. Should I see a difference between the 2 firmwares?
Not operating Seperate ant with my 7000 mkII currently.

No issues with 2.2.1, it has the necessary TX ANT 1-3 bits, I had added the LPF TX bits
to 2.2.2 just to be more complete.

All other FW images also have the LPF bits as well.

I didn't try 2.2.1, I assumed that 2.2.2 was the latest so that's what I grabbed.

In each case, afaik Rick wants people to try the 1st, and then if there are issues, try the 2nd. I assume this is to gather some testing info/data/feedback perhaps, not sure.

So sorry for any confusion, the only difference for the 7/8000 mkII 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 is that I added
LPF bits in the "fix". All the other firmware images have the LPF bits since they were created after.

The ones that have 2 firmware images to try (besides the 7/8000 MkII) are only there because
an alpha tester reported issues with one of them and the other worked better for them.
Timing is such on the firmware that one image may work fine on one rig and not so well on another.

So for 7/8000 MkII use 2.2.2 if it works for you since it is the latest.
All other firmware, use what works best and please report what doesn't work.

For those using a G2, there is also an equivalent fix: you will need to updated the firmware to V12 and p2app to V15.

See the manual for details of how to do that.

Update: I cannot find p2app and FPGA FW in another location thanin N1GP's repository.

Laurence,

is the firmware also available in the DL1YCF repository? I was not able to load V12 file...

Just to add another data point:

I loaded <Metis_Orion_MkII_Protocol_2_v2.2.2.rbf> into my ANAN-8000DLE using the the Protocol 2 HPSDR Programmer under Windows 11 Pro (new PC last month) without a problem. Now I'm running Thetis 2.10.3.6 x64 (1/20/24) dev_2 and everything seems to be just fine.

Volker,

I ran the git pull commands (cd github/Saturn, etc) as described in the manual page 30. I did rename the p2app first as it didn't work the first time because a file with the same name existed...

Then I ran the flashwriter app choosing the v12 file.

After running flashwriter you need to shut down the G2 completely and restart.

Run the p2app and you should see the correct p2app and fpga firmware versions...

No, the firmware is only available in the Saturn repository.

Can you share some details of what the problem was?

The file posted there is exactly the same as I flashed my radio with!

Thanks so much for the fix. Interesting I always thought all the MKIII had the same Cyclone chip. Guess I'm opening up my Anan this weekend :).

Hi Vin,

Check to see if there is a '-CV' in the serial number of the unit.
That would tell you if it had a Cyclone 5 'V'.

There is no harm in trying both the EP4CE115 Cyclone IV
or 5CEFA9F31 Cyclone V firmware images. If one works, that is
the Cyclone variant that your unit has.

Thanks for the combination Thetis + firmware fix for the RF appearing on RX only ports. With P2 firmware v1.9.20B installed in my 200D and running Thetis v2.10.3.6 Dev 2 there is no longer a detectable RF pulse during CW on ports marked "Do not TX". I have been running the firmware and the Dev 2 version from the first day they were available and everything has been running solid here with my 200D. The firmware seems to be right in the sweet spot for Pure Signal with my cranky Orion board!

Thanks,

Rob W1AEX

I have been typing the following commands:

cd ~/github/Saturn
git pull
cd sw_projects/P2_app
make clean
make

cd ../audiotest
make clean
make

running flashmaster I navigated to the file ~/github/Saturn/FPGA
I tried to find saturnprimaryV12.bin, but only V10 was in this folder

Would it be a good idea to install this new firmware for my 8000DLE even if I don't do CW? I haven't encountered any of the problems mentioned on Github. But, since I only use phone, I don't know if the problem would cause problems with other modes and possibly do some damage to my radio.

It couldn't hurt. If the FW doesn't work for you then you can always revert back to what you are currently using.

This problem only happens with a combination of CW and separate receive and transmit antennas.

I just istalled Firmware 2 12.2.1A in my 100D first edition. Now I have "sequence error 264 / 265 (DDC2 Mic)" and an distordet audio. Database reset has no effect.

Any idea?

Yes. Unfortunately that firmware version is not closing timing on your hardware. You will have to petition Rick for another version to try.

Have you booted (from a full OFF state) both the radio and your computer?

It seems that I have named the file saturnprimary2023v12.bin. I have no idea why I did that. Try again with that file!

I got brave and installed the new firmware for my 8000DLE. It got stuck for over 10 minutes on " erasing firmware ". I finally exited out of HPSDR BOOTLOADER and powered the radio off. I even moved the bootloader switch to the off position and back on then powered the radio back on. Started HPSDR Bootloader again, selected the correct file again. It showed "erasing firmware 80%" then switched to programming firmware. It took a couple of minutes and it was done. Turned the 8000DLE off. Turned off the bootloader switch, then powered the radio on. Ran Thetis and everything is working fine.
This was my first time updating the firmware. I am thankful that Scott provided some very good instructions on updating the firmware. Now, to download the latest version of Thetis!

Like Rob, I've updated the firmware on my 200D and running the latest Dev2 Thetis. No issues detected and like Dev1, Dev2 is running smoothly.

We should point out that Christoph has updated piHPSDR to use the new firmware too.

It would seem this thread relates to ANAN and Orion hardware running Thetis and not Saturn hardware running piHPSDR software.
Might be relevant for the piHPSDR forum thread?

This thread is equally relevant to Thetis and piHPSDR.

This issue came about because protocol 2 did not provide the information needed for a CW keyer to select the TX antenna at the start of a CW key down event. We had the same issue on Orion and older hardware and Saturn (G2) hardware. The same issue occurred when operated with both Thetis and piHPSDR. We co-ordinated implementing a solution across both hardware platforms and both SDR clients. Where would you prefer that this all be posted, because it is all related?

This seems to fix a not well known bug in the hardware cw keying. Three month ago I had three MKI 7000er on my bench, my own one and two others. All units went into a cw tx lockup after a few minutes of pile-up or contest work, fixable only by switching power.

Yesterday I keyed random dots and dashes for more than one hour while watching tv. No cw tx lockup on my unit. But I will do further tests.
