Hercules mp3 e2 Pitch knobs

I have just acquired a MP3 e2 controller and having good fun configuring it although I do keep changing my mind on what goes where.
The 2 x pitch control knobs top left and right I can only get to act as a switch. In set up I move anticlockwise and the value goes to 127 even just moving it by one click. Going clockwise makes it jump to a value of 1 with nothing inbetween. Both pitch controls behave in the same manner.
What am I missing ?
