Andromeda Newhaven display issues

Postby dl4zbg » Sat Jul 23, 2022 9:55 pm

Hello,

my Newhaven display (IPS touch, original version) is not detected correctly by my Intec NUC. Resolution is fixed 640x480.
(Digital flat screen monitot 640x480 60Hz)

My previously used Ingcool 7" works fine.

I cannot find any hardware drivers for the Newhaven display, nor does Hardware detection detects the display.

any ideas?

Mine worked fine. Have you tried plugging the display into a different PC, and using a different HDMI cable, to see which makes a difference? The display size is looked up from a memory in the display using different wires in the HDMI cable from the video itself, so my suggestion would be to try a different cable first.

Laurence,

1) Cable is ok. Checked 2 different ones. Both work with Ingcool display.
2) Display was not detected by my Lenovo laptop, Ingcool display worked.

When I first started the NUC, the Newhaven display worked ok, but when I started my Arduino (PWM connnected) the screen got black. Touch function is ok.

I think I have a hardware issue, propably with the flat ribbon connectors.

Try disconnecting the PWM in the first instance. Several users had issues with it (and some didn't) and we worked out a fix... it will depend exactly what version of PCB you have.

Rev5f! I disconnected the leads
Now I separated the Panel from the PCB, but still no different result. Seems that I have bricked the panel. Ingcool display works fine.
Arduino functions are working!

BTW: do I really need the PWM? I don't think so...

Thanks

Hi All

it's probably a little too late but ...

The problem mentioned by DL4ZBG is crystal clear : the EDID eprom is corrupted.

it's a rather common issue, and what we could consider as a "conception bug" (the write "disable" pin of this eprom is left floating)

considering the price of this display, you have two options :
- flashing the eprom again via the jtag located on the main board of the display. It's a simple I2C eprom, and the content of the EDID file is located on the display documentation, located on the Newhaven web site

If you do not have any eprom programmer, just drop me an email (the on on QRZ.com is the right one) and I will send you an already flashed memory (for free... we are ham, not stuff vendors)

the corruption of this eprom seems to be caused by a ground loop in the pwm circuit. Avoiding this pwm command could be a good idea
