I decided that I should check the air filter on my 8000DLE. After disconnecting the radio, and turning it over on my work bench, it appeared that the filter was pretty clogged up. I took the case covers off and removed the fan and it's outside guard. Holding the outside guard up to a bright light, I could see it wasn't clogged real bad. I tried using canned air to blow what little dirt/dust there was out of the filter.
Instead of the dirt and dust coming out, the filter started coming apart. Turns out, it was so dried out that it was brittle. What was left of it was glued to the guard. I removed that and cleaned everything up. The inside of the radio was very clean.
I reassembled the radio. But, did not have a filter to replace the original one. Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement filter? I am tempted to leave it as is. But, I know I should not leave it like that.

Re: 8000DLE air filter
Since the 80's and to this very day, I use some rough cut panty hose. I tape it to the outside of the vent. I use it on computers, amps and my radios. Never a speck of dust inside and they never rot. It will not restrict the air flow if stretched. I'm still using sections of my wife's panty hose she donated in the 90's. Simple and effective. A simple frame can be made of Popsicle sticks. User painters tape to seal the edge and it will not leave a residue when removed.

Re: 8000DLE air filter
I did a search on Amazon and many options came up, not sure if it’s a 120mm or 140mm but there are both there. Search “computer air filter material”, hope this helps. These are complete frames with material, not very expensive either.

Here is an example of what I was describing on Amazon. More professionally done without the added weight gain to obtain Popsicle sticks.

Re: 8000DLE air filter
My lucky day! I ordered the filters and it turns out I had a Gift card on Amazon that covered the cost. Should be here tomorrow!
Thanks for the link.

New filters arrived yesterday evening. I installed one today. The filter is just thin enough to fit between the outside fan guard and the bottom cover. It adds a little bit more depth for the screws to pass thru. But, there is enough thread left to get the nuts on securely.
I appreciate the link to the filters.

Thanks Joe.
It turns out that the 8000DLE fan is 120mm. So, the 120 mm filters are what I needed.

James,
Glad to hear that it worked. I definitely will keep this filter in mind as I have the same setup here.
Thanks,
