G2 PiHPSDR startup program

Postby Bagabonz » Mon Nov 18, 2024 4:39 am

Please forgive my beginner journey into the Linux side of using an Anan. I've used the 7000, 8000, and 10 e before.
While trying to update firmware and repository location as shown in several G2 threads here, I have lost or disabled
the stand alone startup screen that formerly populated with power on.
I thought perhaps I could make new shortcut on the desktop. But that eluded me as well.
I was also trying to get the echo out of my xlr input when using Thetis.
Any help is much appreciated.

The manual covers re-creating the desktop icons.

How old is your radio? early G2 had an echo on the XLR input, but newer ones should have had that fixed.

Thank you Laurence. I have tried the instructions in the manual and I receive the following message:
invalid desktop entry file.'home/pi/piHPSDR.desktop'
This is using 7.5.2 Icon for piHPSDR
I've tried several tries double checking my syntax

I do have an older radio with the XLR echo. I've tried putting ferrites on the cable from input to preamp board without success.

I am stumped fixing these two issues.

Probably the only way to fix the echo issue is to either a) modify the board you have as shown in this topic (towards the bottom of page 2):

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4863&start=30

or b) obtain a newer revision board from Apache and install it.

As for Linux problems, there is literally a YouTube video for almost any Linux question under the Sun. Simply search YT for your question. For instance:

This video is also quite valuable for those new to Linux:

Thank you I will watch those.

My trouble so far has been that when I type in commands I get a invalid file source or no file or directory found.

I thought I discovered the reason when I found the topic on updating the repository.

This fixed some updating but, not all.

I am a complete newb to Linux so many things I don't understand but I'm smiling through the fog and trying my 67 yr. old hardest to muddle

through and fake it til I make it. I live an hour away from Sacramento so I asked for an RMA to bring it in and get the microphone echo fixed.

Hopefully they can update the firmware and other issues at the same time. A little miffed they won't let me bring it in as it's not a "walk-in" facility

according to Tony. So it will cost me to ship somewhere I used to commute. This my 4th Anan so I know how to get around in Thetis. This is a

different animal.

Check that your directory structure is correct. It is also possible that the piHPSDR directory is in the github directory -->

home/pi/github/pihpsdr.desktop

Please, please, please, don't blame the directory structure for any problems! piHPSDR is working perfectly on my Saturn within /github/pihpsdr!

I just installed piHPSDR in /shack/dl8laq/jo43xu/pihpsdr just for fun. No problems at all!

And, I assume you created the necessary desktop shortcut for it. As well as putting the correct path for it to automatically start on bootup for the G2 Saturn with the front panel.
I believe Roger is referring to the default settings used for radios from the factory.

Since my G2 front panel also had an echo in the xlr input, and is a very early manufacture I sent it in to be brought up to date.
At first I thought I would be sending it to Sacramento, but Tony had me ship it to Irvine CA. It arrived yesterday. I'll let you all know how it goes.
