'CW handled in Radio' mode, but not from rigctl

rig: G2 100W, w.o. ctrl front, embedded pihpsdr, V10 gateware.
To have sufficient directness in CW it is necessary to use the 'CW handled in Radio' mode 'CWHIR'. The keying and cw signal generation are done in hardware, i.s.o. in wdsp. My key is connected to the key input at the G2 rear panel.
I want to combine 'life' CW with CW code defined via rigctl.
Now the following problem exists: when sending morse code through rigctl commands the G2 reacts in non CWHIR mode, even though that mode is set. The CW gets generated in wdsp, a spectrum is shown, one hears side tone, but no RF is emitted.
Only unchecking CWHIR makes both the life keying and rigctl keying produce RF, but with unacceptable latency.
Can rigctl be made to directly order the fpga to produce CW, without wdsp intervention?
