Thetis v2.9.0 - Updates and Issues

I had to do an uninstall

I did an over-the-top install, and everything seems to be working, but I can't tell if it is 2.9.0.5 or not. The title bar says "Thetis v2.9.0 x64 (4/4/22) (Protocol 2 v2.1.18) MW0LGE rev4"

I did an uninstall, then ran the msi and my title bar says " Thetis v2.9.0.5x64 ((4/21/22) (Protocol 2 v2.1.18) MW0LGE
The fresh install retained all my database info.

interesting, just ran an install on mine, and it went over the top, it should say 2.9.0.5 in the title bar. Best to uninstall/reinstall in that case. Not like it takes long to do. I will update post 1.

Mine installed over the top with no issues. I will do the uninstall/install thing next time. I was done before I remembered I may have needed to do that.

Went from one of the k series pre-releases to 2.9.0.5, it needed a remove and a re-install, then no troubles. Symptom was, the radio just didn't "start", software powered up but nothing "running".

The power profiles are a great idea, thanks.

Want / Wish

In Collapsed mode the PWR doesn't indicate current value/position, maybe populate the hover over with the value?

Also in Collapsed mode I would like a VAC over/underflow indicator, it could be tucked in the bottom status bar?

tnx for the new version (2.9.0.5), here no problem with installing (after deinstalling with W10-system procedure).

a) Is it possible, to include the function / checkbox "adjust min to noise floor..." in your new pulldown buttons below the waterfall? Sometimes it is usefull to enable / disable this (very nice) feature with only one mouse click.

b) I can not increase the band width with the mouse wheel, if the "Low"-value is greater 0. Btw I am using this function in CW-mode starting with a filter width of 400 Hz.

Only if Low is 0, then the mouse wheel works in the upper direction. Is this a problem with my database?

Btw: It is great, that your provided source-ZIP-files are usable in VS without any obstacles, concerning compiling and building own versions.

I have the same problem after pressing START in Thetis and nothing happens with the RADIO and finally I get the question ".....is it connected and powered". I quit this message 2-4 times and then the radio starts.

But this behavior is not reliable replicable.

I didn't find the reason for this.
Has any one an idea for this behavior?

this is a bug, and no, not a problem with the db, thanks for the report.

re the connection issue. If this is intermittent then it could be any number of issues, from network, to hardware, to pc, to firewall, to other software running... etc...etc

Uninstall/reinstall had the desired effect.

Digging the new offset setting for the automatic minimum panadapter level

Uninstalled and re installed without issue.

Can the power profiles be assigned to mode?

This has been a Holy Grail for many years.

The problem is that the original design team never thought that real-time CW sidetone on the PC audio interface was possible. We know this to be an incorrect assessment since the full-break-in QSK capability was implemented in Thetis/P2 for Orion and Orion MKII based hardware.

Unfortunately, for those who have a key or paddle attached to the hardware input on an ANAN, there is no support in the firmware for the necessary high speed signaling to come back from the hardware to the PC and be made into sidetone.

However all is not lost.

If the key/paddle was instead attached to a PC serial port and enabled in Setup > DSP > CW > Connections, then the problem becomes strictly that of software. Thetis could be modified to produce the necessary sidetone with sufficiently low latency on the VAC interface.

It is worth noting that this configuration does work for full-break-in QSK on Thetis/P2/Orion platforms.

yes I have updated the text in post 1 and the github repo to advise to uninstall/reinstall. After reading WiX details on upgrades, it is only triggered if a value in the first 3 digits change, 2.9.0. However on some machines, including mine, then a change in revision does cause an over-write/upgrade, so not exactly consistent.

Re the mode, no. Of course it could be coded, but I think this stage of flexibility is just enough right now.

In fact, the full-duplex QSK now available on the above platform makes old-fashioned sidetone completely passe IMO. You're just hearing yourself on the band, like a regular station. Chris and Rick did a super job on this

It's really not a difficult problem to solve. It just waits on someone who finds solving it interesting.

To clarify, my post is intended to support your wish

This will never work for internet (WAN) users, only LAN users.

Which makes it even more important to you, since you cannot use the full-break-in capability of Thetis with that Angelia-based radio.

There is an old school answer to this problem and it is surprising that nobody has ever posted about it: just wire an old-fashioned code practice oscillator, aka sidetone oscillator, across the output of the key or paddle

Strange. No matter where I place the passband, ZZZB won't invoke when the display shows "Expand" at the top menu bar. Works fine when "Collapsed" is shown. ZZZB command through StreamDeck:

Downloaded the latest pre-release this morning, uninstalled previous version - directories gone and then installed latest pre release.

I get the following error message "requested value 'tuneDrive' was not found"

I then tried a totally clean install - by renaming data folder in Appdata
This time thetis loaded and ran but when I tried to import my old database file it again throws the same error after restart

the install process has not put the exe on there that is required. You have at one stage had the correct version, but now you do not.

1) Run Thetis and/or Thetis x64 uninstall from add/remove programs
2) go to c:\program files\openhpsdr\thetis folder and remove any existing dll's/exe's
you should also check c:\program files x86\openhpsdr\thetis if you are running the x86 (32bit) verison
3) reinstall

yep, issue in existing code. It is using a function to 'click' the zbeat button which is not visible as it is on the expanded view, and hidden in collapsed. The function call 'PerformClick' does nothing when a button is hidden. Old bug.

This is actually a bug, and I will need to re-release 2.9.0.5 by the looks of it. If anyone has had Tdrv selected as a button action this will error.


In the mean time, to get it working

1) edit your database.xml, and search for infoBar_button1
2) change <Value>Tdrv</Value> to <Value>Blobs</Value>
3) do the same for infoBar_button2
4) change <Value>Tdrv</Value> to <Value>Blobs</Value>

Sorry for this, somewhat of an oversight ! I will look at working a fix shortly.
