Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Richie and Ernst,
Thank you for all the effort you put into this. Great to see this be a collaboration. Hope it paves the way for other future collaborations
Thank you for allowing others to see, learn and help test this along the way (ie. build from github...)
Thank you for using the github flow control and tooling (issues, branches, PRs, etc)
Thank you for the gracefulness by which you take comments, especially on design ideas.
Yes, many others contributed prior and we (and Apache Labs ! ) owe a lot to them, but reviving and re-energizing the interest in it would not be possible without the courage and passion demonstrated here.
Well done.

Smooth update! I do have a couple of questions.
Rob, how are you getting the main Thetis window to resize so you can put the meters outside of the main display window? It seems I am probably missing something simple.
By the way, I am only using the clock, Signal Strength meter and a bar graph meter at the moment. I cpu usage hasn't changed at all! When I move the meters I do get a bit of stuttering of the display ( redrawing ) but, I figure that is because this Dell is using the onboard Intel Graphics chipset.
Lot's of fun!!
Thanks Ritchie and Earnest!!

Never mind!! Watching Ritchie's video I found the answer! Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Trying not to clutter up this thread. But, WOW, talk about a neat update! And my cpu usage hasn't went up at all!! Fantastic work.
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
installed the latest version.
Just one question, is it a bug or something I'm not doing correctly. I like to set my DSP Filter Sizes and Filter Types from 4096 and Low Latency to 2048 and Linear Phase. When I change them and restart Thetis, they revert back to 4096 and Low Latency.
The reason I use the Linear Phase is because I do not like the Metalica sound on RX audio.
Cheers

You need to save the new settings as part of your active transmit profile, Phil. Otherwise when you restart the profile you had before is re-loaded.

Awesome, thanks Chris for the tip. That worked.

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Here's version that installs correctly now -- I'll note that the Thetis installer in the code seems to want to install the x86 version by default. I had to make a link in the directory to point the x86 directory to x64 so the installer could find the correct 64-bit files.
This version has a stack trace in to hopefully help figure out the seg fault problem with the resizing.

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Hi everyone. Here's another example of meter containers inside the Thetis console, including edge meters, analog multimeter, VFOs, clocks, and a magic eye with an escutcheon from the floor model Silvertone model 4586 from 1936, courtesy W1JA (http://www.radiophile.com) and included in Ernst's collection. It's doubly retro in a 21st century rig!
I deliberately positioned the new meter containers to hide the old meter and VFO displays. I also use an undocked cross-needle meter outside the main Thetis window, so 8 containers in all. I haven't ventured forward into RX2 yet.
On the display the is the 20m CW band this afternoon.
Congrats Richie. And Ernst- tnx for the FB meter scales, OM.

Neat idea! Maybe at some point the new meters could be selectable for each position instead of using a container and positioning them on top of the default meters and vfo's.

Nice layout, Chris! Very nice! If I can ever get this to run here I'm likely to copy you

I did download your build, Mike, and will be trying that sometime very soon, thanks!

Had to try it. My monitor is only 27". But, certainly makes a interesting difference.

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Doing a major rebuild, so have a temporary shack with only 2 24" screens. But this is what I did on one screen anyway.
I don’t suffer from insanity, I enjoy every second of it!
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Very good job by Richie and Ernst, thanks for the time and effort!
It works very well. The system load has increased from 2% to 4%.
It's very fun.
Thanks a lot!

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
wow, those meters integrated/covering over the top of the outdated built in S-meter etc would be fantastic to have as built into the Thetis GUI and as you add meters it expands out the main GUI. At least having the option to either use a container or be integrated, replace the meters etc, depending on your screen size.
Maybe it's on the cards. Nice work. Any chance we can fix up the startup image? The best SDR Software (best is lower case) and I know the meter design was by Ernst after a lot of work, but can the callsign watermark be removed? Unless it's a licensed trademark.

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
Thought I would share where I have placed things.
One request would be if a container could be made pop outable by just clicking anywhere in it, so it acts more like a shortcut button.
As you will see I have the cross needle meter very small, next to the magic eye across the top.
Obviously that is far to small to use but when I do want to use it I just click the pop out which brings up a big meter.
If I could just click anywhere on the image to pop in or out instead of the top right corner that would be neat.
Thanks again all involved
Paul

After enabling "visual aproximation of notch" in DSP/MNF I have a "color bug" on my waterfall when zooming in and out.

Try it with activated noise floor compensation.

Thanks for the tip Ernst!
Checking "noise floor compensation" solves the issue.
Unfortunately, checkig it, my waterfall shows "more noise". I'm in down town Barcelona city and I'm suffering severe QRM from unfiltered switching power supplies in my neigborghood.

Richie! Good afternoon! it would be amazing if you could also make arbitrary movement of the blocks of buttons and sliders with a change in their size. this would allow maximum customization of the interface individually. Thank you!
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
I would say that the outcome was worth the wait. Richie.....Ernst....Great Job!! and I (and many others) thank you so much. Your hard work has resulted in everything needed, right up front, to check and calibrate audio and transceiver performance. It's almost information overload. For me anyway.
Thanks again for all the previous and current enhancements making this the best transceiver on the ham radio market.
Cheers!

Sorry it took me so long to try this, Mike, the weekend was busy, but it was the first thing I did this morning.
I can repeatedly and reliably reproduce this error as follow: launch Thetis, create a multimeter container, then pop out the container or try to resize it:
If I dismiss this error and proceed to add meters to the container then Thetis will freeze and crash/quit.
I hope this helps to debug this problem for Tony and I.

Hi Scott , Mike kindly sent me a few trace builds over the weekend. I get the first part of the error you show above .

Just a shot in the blue sky:
Did you both have installed Visual Studio?
If I look at the path on the stacktrace, it points to c:\projects\sharpdx, which is not a part from Win10/11.
Edit: I also have installed VS, but I always run these IDE's in virutal machines.

Hi Ernst, I do not have visual studio which is maybe why I just get the first part of the error message Scott has.
Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more
While I do have VS installed, there is no such folder or path on my system. I'm guessing it's an artifact from how Mike built his version.oe3ide wrote:If I look at the path on the stacktrace, it points to c:\projects\sharpdx, which is not a part from Win10/11.
