Just taking a wild guess that lockup is due to RFI of some sort, and a wired keyboard and/or a wired mouse have often been very susceptible paths.

If your antenna is close to your operating point that can be an issue.

If you are using a non-resonant antenna, even though the antenna tuner has tuned it up, there can still be a lot of currents on the shield of the coax coming back into the shack and radiating off that shield. Ferrite chokes at both the feedpoint and at the output of the tuner can help this situation.

Ladder line in the shack is also a weak point. Properly tuned up it should not radiate, but nothing is perfect.

I had the same problem with the openHPSDR hardware with USB connection. PowerSDR occasionally crashed upon release of the PTT, and hardware transmitted something at full power then. It didn't happen often but it was annoying. TX power was only 16W, the antenna was a 20m full-wave delta loop with 2:1 BalUn, RG-213 coax. PC i5 laptop, Windows 7 Pro and Windows 11 Pro, wireless mouse, I tried several versions of the PowerSDR. Station ground was very short, connected to the house ground rods outside. I played a lot with ferrites, and PowerSDR settings. Nothing helped and never realized what is going on. I just stopped using it. As far as I can recall, .NET Framework gave an unhandled exception error that JanusAudio.dll tried to read/write memory allocation which wasn't allowed, and crashed because of that. Once again, it always happened upon release of the PTT, and never during the transmission.

Take a look at the Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application why Thetis crashed and copy-paste it here.

Ferrites on mouse and keyboard don't help. Beginning to suspect a hardware problem with the 7000.

If you have reduced your drive RF power to 0 or 1, and still have an issue it is not likely RFI. Assuming no amp in line.

Where are you located? There may be other 7k users near you, pretty easy to swap out hardware and eliminate that as an issue.

I would try G4ELI SDR Console first to see whether it's a hardware or software issue.

I have since replaced the 7000 with a spare 7000 that I have, and the spare doesn't have the lockup problem. So I am concluding there's a hardware problem in the original 7000.

Do they both run on the same firmware version? Have you tried to reload the firmware into the faulty one?
