Shut Down Problems with Thetis

Postby DH1TT » Sat Mar 18, 2023 5:33 pm

Hello ALL.

Again and again, I have difficulties to shut down Thetis. Of course, the GUI is closing, but the application is still hanging, and I have to kill it manually in the Task Manager. I have this effect again and again and in different Thetis releases. Expect, it's mainly a WIN problem. Anyhow, I hope someone can help. That would be great!

I record a 15-second video. Easy way to explain. Please, have a look at this link. Thanks in advance,

Oliver

What version of Windows, and is Windows fully up to date?

Is Thetis properly writing out any changes to the database before hanging?

Try renaming \users\mdbla\AppData\Roaming\OpenHPSDR
That will allow you to start with a new config.

If that works than something was corrupt.

Exactly this is the main issue! Database is NOT updated!!

In between, it's working .... but I was never smart enough to figure out when or when not or why. For a week now, it didn't work. Uninstalled yesterday the 2.9.0.6 and updated to the 2.9.0.8. Same problem.
After 6,7,8 attempts I finally had luck to shut down and restart with my database.

WIN11, always up to date.....

It's not a new phenomena for me. I do remember, back under WIN10, it was the same with much older hardware.....

I didn't document this problem...... but I remember that one day I thought, it has to do with the growing size of database file? But - it could be total nonsense...... So far, it has usually worked for a while, after a fresh installation. This time, sadly not.

Thank you, Scott, for your answer!

Hello Mike,

did exactly what you recommended. But without success. Happy that I could manage a DB import after....8? 9? Times killing thetis in task manager....

Thank you anyway!!!

OK, I have no immediate ideas, but those are good clues right there.

Actually, one idea: what happens if you run Thetis as administrator? Change the properties of the Thetis .exe, or change the properties of the shortcut you use to launch Thetis.

In the task manager... click details on left (vs Processes) then look for thetis.exe and right click and pick the "Analyze Wait Chain" option. See what is still pending after you shut it down. Just a pointer and not a solution here... :-) Good luck Oliver.

Interestingly enough. I now see this problem on my end too... wondering if this happens on subsequent shutdowns or if it is timing related... I did the procedure above and see this, but not sure there is a smoking gun here...

Ahhhh..... Miguel..... Hello, hello....

Hope you're well.....

I'm feeling guilty. Hope I didn't infect you or your setup!
But what I know, I'm NOT alone. I know another OM. Now 2.
Before I posted my issue, I did research. "Shut Down" "Task Manager" to solve my problem.
I expected some posts but nope.... nothing.
Look at my funny screenshot. App is closed on Desktop but NOT in Task Manager.:

In English: "Thetis.exe is running correctly"

My standard user has admin rights, THETIS.EXE and the file/directory also got full read/write right's.
Maybe I'm completely wrong, but rights work, or they don't. It works sporadically. Sometimes after 5, after 10 attempts. Sometimes it doesn't work for a whole week.

mike b :
Sorry to hear that you're giving up. It's not the solution for me. I'm more an experimenter. Different settings and profiles. Using OC`s, all CAT ports and vy individual PA Settings for QRPP to feed my LDMOS Amp. And of course, all the audio settings for phone. Plus plus plus.

My station is operated remotely. In that case, it has to work reliably.
In the long run, it just gets annoying. I need to be able to rely on settings changes being saved reliably. It's not just about ending the task with another click. Otherwise, there are far too many parameters for me to check and repeatedly set manually with every restart. OC and AMP settings are not to be trifled with.

That's why I wish so much to find someone who knows more than me to get this problem under control in the long term.

Thanks to everybody!

Oliver

(I`m not that win specialist and of course not a Thetis Pro User, even I started with PWRSDR in 2008...... so please sorry for the QRM)
