Thetis 2.10.0 Released (G2 users take note!)
Thetis 2.10.0 Released (G2 users take note!)
Introduction & Links
Because I was not Johnny-on-the-spot over the weekend, Bill beat me to posting about this new release of Thetis, version 2.10.0. I didn't want to lose the info in the posts below, so Bill has very kindly let me hijack his original post
The 2.10.0 installer is available in two places:
- The TAPR GitHub repository: https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Thetis/releases/tag/v2.10.0.0, including a snapshot of the codebase as a zip or tar.gz file
- Richie's GitHub repository: https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis/releases. The master repository there remains live and may see additional contributions as time goes on. My understanding is that Richie will be stepping away for a time to take care of personal commitments, but the repo will remain available to the primary developer cadre.
Version Description
2.10.0 is based on Richie's Github repository (https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis) and his lengthy series of 2.9.x.x beta versions. It is a cooperative effort with contributions by Laurence, Doug, Warren and Richie.
This version is not very different from 2.9.x.x versions. There are no formal release notes that I'm aware of but a long list of commits to Richie's repository is available here: https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis/commits/master
The most significant changes are as follows:
- Support for the G2 hardware now starting to be delivered by Apache. G2 users: this version is required if you wish to use Thetis with the G2. Also, be aware that, while the developers believe the risks are low, this version was developed using partial, prototype G2 hardware and may still have some bugs that need to be squashed.
- An important PureSignal bug fix for Hermes and Hermes-like (e.g. Hermes Lite 2) hardware using Protocol 1. This fixes the PureSignal instability problem that was occurring on this hardware when using Protocol 1 firmware.
- The official release of Voice Squelch, which some folks were happily already running using the latest 2.9.x.x beta versions.
- A wide variety of other bug fixes and improvements (see the commits link referenced above).
As always, please advise me of any corrections, additions or deletions required above and I will make the necessary updates.

Scott/w-u-2-o

Ritchie's update? The meters?
Sorry, I'm new and not familiar with all yet.

Just downloaded and installed. Seems to be working fine. Loaded fast. Has selections for the new Saturn G2 100 and 1K.

What's different with this latest release? Obviously it's an "official" W5WC release, but is it basically the same as the latest Richie release.

In the radio selection drop down, there are now selections for the new G2 Saturn 100 watt and 1000 watt radios. Beyond that, nothing obvious. I have been running it for several hours and no overflows or underflows. Plus, it appears to load faster.
But, the overflows and underflows differences in my case, could be because I disabled the news widget that updates regularly. It is on the lower left of the screen in Windows 11. Even when minimized, it updates in the background. Disabling it seems to have made a difference for me.

I am surprised that there hasn't been an official post for this version yet.
Re: New version of Thetis
I haven't had time for an "official" post.
This version is based on Richie's repo but with changes to support the G2.
From a user/functional perspective there's not a lot new: G2 support, the official release of voice squelch, and some bug fixes.
For bug fixes see the list of commits on Richie's repo: https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis/commits/master. However, since Doug, Laurence and Warren all worked on this outside of Richie's repo that may not be a comprehensive list.
It looks like Doug committed changes from him, Laurence and Warren back into Richie's repo but without building it I couldn't say for sure: https://github.com/ramdor/Thetis/commit/f8c9f03fc5016607e0d1421c86b03417862690fa
Richie has personal commitments that are causing him to put any further development on his part on hold. Doug did the release and he felt more comfortable doing it the "old" way, which is to post an archive of the source and an installer on the TAPR Git repo.

Re: New version of Thetis
Scott,
Thanks for the explanation. I guess I had become used to the "old way". But, no matter, having a new release is always a good thing for me. So far, it has been rock solid.
One thing , it should provide encouragement to those that have pre-ordered the new radios. Seeing their inclusion in the list of supported radios is a good thing. I for one am looking forward to seeing how well the new radios work with Thetis. I have been on the fence about ordering a G2 Saturn ( 100 watt version). Owning an 8000DLE also makes it easier to sit on the sidelines and wait to see how the new radios work for new owners.

Re: New version of Thetis
It’s not working for me . Should I have uninstalled the old version which was 2.9.0 x64 (4/4/22) ?
Re: New version of Thetis
It’s the safest thing to do, go into setup in the app removal feature. Afterwards you might check in the “program” folder and be sure that the “openhpsdr” folder is not there, then install the new version. Everything should work afterwards.

Installed on top of Steve's 2.9.0.27, no problems for me.

Just works here too
I don’t suffer from insanity, I enjoy every second of it!
Re: New version of Thetis
All working now after uninstalling the old version
Re: New version of Thetis
I'm still running an ANAN-100D. Apparently one of the few, but mine works quit well for me. I'm using Thetis 2.8.11 with firmware v5.9. By any chance will the new Thetis run with my firmware? The newer firmware does not like my older equipment.

Yes, it will run exactly the same as 2.8.11, but better, because it has many more features and bug fixes.
Re: New version of Thetis
Works fine for me as well. Uninstalled the old version first.

Re: New version of Thetis
I ran into an installation issue with Thetis v2.10.0, then reverted to G7KLJ's v2.09.31. After installation of v2.10.0, Thetis' startup window showed 1900+ seconds and each successive restart took nearly that long.
Before installing v2.10.0, the old Thetis version was deleted in Windows' program add/delete manager. I didn't simply overwrite onto the old Thetis version. I'll revisit the problem at a later time.
Anyway, I've not kept up with Thetis notes over the last two months, but I'm assuming there's no means at present to save and recall multimeter containers?

Paul, I installed over Richie's previous release with no issues. I did make a backup of my database settings etc. first. Meter settings were retained without problems.
I think installing over Steve's version may be a problem. He has ( and has) made changes that may not be fully compatible with the official Github release from Ritchie and others. ( with changes for the new Saturn G2 radios)
I run Steve's software on a separate computer to avoid any problems.

Re: Thetis 2.10.0 Released (G2 users take note!)
The meters were also retained when I did the new install of 2.10.0. I was running 2.9.0.8, the latest release from Ritchie. It was sure a nice surprise after doing the install of 2.10.0 to se the meters appear when started for the first time.

Re: Thetis 2.10.0 Released (G2 users take note!)
Thanks for the update, but PLEASE consider Andromeda.
The Mode dependent display is just a black frame. As well, there is no way to set up voice squelch that I can see.
The Andromeda display seems to have increased slightly in height. The bottom information (Voltage, various noise derivatives) is partly obscured.
The Mode Dependent display was bad on x.08 as well. It worked on Steve's version x.27.

working Thetis version 2.10.0 many times. After installation and clicking on the icon, I immediately get an error message (jpg file attached). I get the same error message on both my shack PC and a laptop.
On both computers, I was able to reinstall Richie's release of 2.9.0.8 after uninstalling 2.10.0 with no problem.
The computers are both running Windows 11 with all updates.
My Anan G2 100 has been ordered since April 26. I expect to receive it sometime this summer. I "need" to solve this problem before it arrives.

I can confirm no issue on upgrading these versions of Thetis on my PC. I upgraded from 2.9.0.8 --> 2.10.0. and my multimeters are fine.
Check the file path is correct and that it does indeed exist.
