In CW mode using iambic paddles with the internal keyer, with the sidetone enabled, the first time I touch a paddle I get a brief crackling sound and two dits when it should be dash. This only occurs the first touch of either paddle. Stating it another way if I’m sending a word at 25 wpm it’s only that first touch of the paddles this occurs, the remaining characters ok. Then with the typical delay between words it occurs again on the first character. Makes it really challenging to get that first character out.
It’s as though there is some trash in the beginning of the buffer, like a pointer is off.
Anyone run into this one?
Tnx,

Crackling CW Sidetone
Re: Crackling CW Sidetone
Problem solved..... never leave Pure Signal on in CW mode, silly me!
Re: Crackling CW Sidetone
Oh interesting - so it would have the same issue with an external keyer as well?
Re: Crackling CW Sidetone
Haven't tried an external keyer, but I was getting close.... was ready to give up on the internal keyer but I gave it another go and got lucky.
I attached a screenshots of what is actually happening. If you look you'll see the reason for the pair of initial dits (bottom pic). Interesting how the carrier shifts with PS engaged.
Sure would be nice if PS was disabled in CW mode!
