Hello,
Thetis Issue: I've had my G2 Ultra w/8 inch display (new version) and can not get Thetis to interface. Appears to go thru FFT check fine, but when clicking G2, pops up no SDR. Is there anything in PiHPSDR to change?
Build: solid, nicely finished, knobs all turn smoothly. Much beefier feel than my past Flex or new the Yaesu's. On par with ICOM, but wish the VFO knob had a heavier feel and was much larger. Display is bright and clear.
A real problem for me is that there is only ONE multi function knob that controls AFgain, AGC, Step, Cmpr, CWfrg, CWspd, DivG, DivP, Fcutl, Fcutlh. In other words, you can't change CW speed or volume with a KNOB. This does not work for everyday operating. Additionally, the radio does not have an internal speaker. Bummer. Can't take it on field day and show off without taking a speaker.
Only one multi-function knob. very difficult to casually operate to easily change cw speed, af gain, rit, etc.
There is a sub-box on the display that offers sliders for Zoom, Pan, AF, AGC, ATT, Mic, TX frive, Sqlch. But you have to toggle thru to get to a number of other functions which then leads to a chicklet box. So you have to have multiple clicks and slides to get to commonly used functions.
Fan Noise: Quite load and rumbly.
Receiver: With PiHPSDR, it is on par with a Flex 6400 and down from my Expert Electronics MB1 SDR running ESDR2 or ESDR3.
Overall - if I can't get Thetis to work on my computer with my Elad TM2 or a decent MIdi, I would not keep it.

G2 Ultra w/8" Display Observations and Thetis Problems
Re: G2 Ultra w/8" Display Observations and Thetis Problems
I think I found the answer to my own question. There is a file on the Linux Home page of the G2 that has the p2_app file. Opening the file, I need to find out what it takes to open it

Re: G2 Ultra w/8" Display Observations and Thetis Problems
There should be a shortcut on your Raspbian Linux desktop for P2APP. If not, you will have to create one. The G2 Saturn manual does have instructions on how to create a shortcut if one is not present.
I have been considering the new G2 Ultra. But, I am going to wait a bit longer.

I don't understand the question about the multifunction encoder. That control can be set to the function of any rotary control; but AF gain and RIT have their own controls. So you can set CW speed on the rotary control, and still control AF gain and RIT on others.K0PJ/9 wrote:Hello,

re fan noise:
The fan on the G2 v2 "Ultra" is very loud. I have replaced it with a Noctua fan. They are expensive but now I cannot hear the fan at all.

What is the exact type designation of the Noctua fan?
