Hi all,

I'm reinstalling my Anan 7000DLE MkII/Voicemeeter/WSJT-X operation. Com0com used to work fine in 2021, it doesn't work anymore. It is the same problem with a freshly installed W11 on a second laptop. I downloaded VSPE and tried the free version, it works, with only one virtual COM port (when com0com needed 2 of them).

What drives me mad, is that I can hear the ANAN in the laptop's speakers but nothing goes in WSJT-X or out of it.

I used to see my signals (tune or cq) in Thetis, there's nothing now, even if WSJT-X manages to put the ANAN in transmit mode. TX power is 0.

In Voicemeeter (v. 1.1.1.9) my old settings can't reproduced: the names have changed and selecting the new ones in VM and WSJT-X dont change anything, see images. I've also included my old settings.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You do not need VSPE or anything like it anymore. See this topic: viewtopic.php?p=28188

The problem with your audio set up is you have not assigned the device names correctly.

While you can do this with Voicemeeter, a better approach is to use Voicemeeter Banana or Voicemeeter Potato. The latter two versions provide for additional virtual channels (the "B" channels). This way you can assign Thetis to one of the virtual channels, and WSJT-X (or whatever) to a second channel. This helps to remove any ambiguity. Then simply point the two channels at each other in Voicemeeter, i.e. on channel B1 enable the B2 button (aka "send") on on channel B2 enable the B1 button.

If you want to hear the audio from Thetis on your PC speakers, enable the A1 send on the virtual channel. And make certain you have assigned A1 hardware out in Voicemeeter to your PC speakers, of course.

Also, this is very important: make certain you go into the sound control panel and drill down into the advanced properties of all Voicemeeter-related devices on both the recording and playback sides, and change the sample rate to 48KHz.

The Voicemeeter device naming conventions are absolutely awful, so don't feel bad about picking the wrong ones!

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the quick answer. When I saw it at 2 am, it seemed obvious that, after a good sleep, I would set things right in a few minutes. I couldn't be more wrong. I had already installed Voicemeeter Banana on my second laptop, and something is working now but I don't know why.

- I can't listen to to Thetis on the laptop's speakers.
- I can tune or transmit in WSJT-X and it transmits in Thetis. At last. In VMB I need to enable B2 on the first virtual input.
- I can see Thetis signal on WSJT-X only if I select Voicemeeter In 3 as an output from Thetis.

Could you please share your own screenshots? Right now I feel like an idiot: I've tried many combinations, one works (kinda since I can't listen to Thetis).

Btw I can listen to Thetis if I select Voicemeeter VAIO 3 input as an ouput in Thetis, but WSJT-X won't work.
Btw2 I don't see the difference between Voicemeeter and Banana, except that there is a cassette deck.
Btw3 I haven't tried it yet, but I will use a USB mic and I guess it will be hard to set up. And may mess things up.

Hi Jimi,

You've got a number of problems with your configuration, but it's getting closer! :)

My Voicemeeter configuration is set up to handle audio in a much more complex way and it would not help for me to post screen shots.

1. First things first, to help clarify the situation, in Voicemeeter Banana (just "Voicemeeter" from now on), right click in the area just above where it says "Voicemeeter Input" and a label box will appear. Label that channel "Thetis". Do the same for the "Voicemeeter AUX" channel, but label it "WSJT-X"

2. Change your virtual device assignments in Thetis to be as follows (and I am not showing the part of the name in parentheses):

Input: Voicemeeter Out B1
Output: Voicemeeter Input

3. Change your virtual device assignments in WSJT-X to be as follows (and I am not showing the part of the name in parentheses):

Input: Voicemeeter Out B2
Output: Voicemeeter AUX Input

Note that these names are only valid for the MME driver type. If you choose another driver the names will change!

I really wish there was a good YouTube tutorial on Voicemeeter device naming but I've been unable to find one. After you work with the tool for a while you do get a feel for it.

4. Turn on the following "send" buttons on the "Thetis" channel: A1 (sends to your speakers) and B2 (sends to the WSJT-X channel).

5. Turn on the following "send" buttons on the "WSJT-X" channel: B1 (sends to the Thetis channel).

6. Enable the stereo checkbox in Thetis VAC setup so that you can enjoy all of the audio features in Thetis.

Thanks a lot Scott, everything works properly now :-) I'm going to save those settings, and screenshots as well for future reference.

One last question: how do I insert my USB mic, is Banana enough or should I go straight to Potato? I'm pretty sure than changing the audio settings in Thetis isn't the proper way to go.

Thanks in advance, Scott.

Banana is enough, but potato offers a number of additional features.

What's interesting is you can switch back and forth between them easily as settings will copy over between the two fairly transparently.

Now that you understand the concept of the send buttons, you can assign your USB mic to the first hardware input channel and route that to Thetis anytime you like.
