G2V2 Output Spike

Post by chuckgreen29@gmail.com »

I am using an Anan G2V2 with Thetis. I carefully set the Thetis PA table to drive my 1500 watt RF AMP brand amplifier to 1200 watts. I save my settings, and all is good. HOWEVER, using my LP-100A wattmeter I have seen, on rare occasions, a G2V2 power output spike many times the initial setting. It's as if the radio occasionally ignores the low power output for a very brief interval and does so in what appears to be random times. This is really a sad commentary but since I otherwise see no issues or warnings from the amplifier, I fried the LDMOS output transistors many times over. This has happened on a Taurus amp and 2 different RF Kit (Now RF Amp) amplifiers. The problem is real AND costly. I am a contester and when the amp is in use it's for 48 hours, not just an occasional DX QSO. Not Key down and not FT8 but CW. It's not the antenna as it worked just fine using a Flex and an Expert 2K-FA amplifier for 48 hours last weekend. Has any user had similar problems with the G2? I am at a loss as to how to proceed.
The problem is very repeatable on 15m. Using the LP-100A to capture the maximum power out I see the marker for highest power to the far right and the continuing bar graph shows power settling mid-scale. It does this EVERY time on 15m. This means that the 25 watt steady state output is probably outputting 50 watts at the start of each CW character. The amp failed on 40m but it may be a very random thing on the other bands. If it happens on 1 band I suspect that it occurs on all bands at some interval.

Is it the radio or is it Thetis and how do I tell and what do I do? I am running Thetis 2.10.3.11, fpga v 19, and p2app v40.
