Power Button Won't latch

I am having an issue getting the power button to latch in the on position on my old grey 100D. If separate the front panel button from the switch, the power switch works every time.
As soon as I connect the switch the front panel button, it will not latch. Two of us are looking at not seeing a reason why.
Any help would be appreciated.
