Palstar LA-1K Pure Signal Jack

Post by NI0Z »

Hello,

I recently just received my Palstar LA-1K and noticed it has a Pure Signal Jack on back, anyone using it and how would it connect to the Anan 7000 MKII Black?

If it were me I'd just run a cable between that jack and the Rx Bypass jack on the Anan.

It'd need to be a custom cable, with a BNC connector on one end and an RCA plug on the other end.

But that's just me.. :)

Mark

EDIT: Here's a review by W1TR@arrl.net on that amp, it mentions the PureSignal feature: https://static.dxengineering.com/global ... -1k_zz.pdf

Mark is correct, of course.

You need to set the "Bypass on TX" option in the settings so that the radio uses the external feedback signal instead of one from the internal coupler.

Ok, got that, but will it also correct the Amps output as well as the Anans? I am guessing no, of course PureSignal still gives a cleaner signal to the am to work with. That being said I am guessing with the newer Anans it's not needed?

Yes, that's the entire point of using a feedback signal coupled off of the amp output. PureSignal will make the necessary corrections in order to achieve linearity at the point where the feedback signal is coupled from, in this case the output of the external amplifier.

Think about it mathematically: PS knows the shape of the input signal. PS is measuring the output, in this case at the output of the external amp. It does the math to make the output look like the input.
That being said I am guessing with the newer Anans it's not needed?
That's definitely not true. Without PureSignal the linearity of all ANAN models, newer ones included, is not significantly different or better than any other amateur radio transceiver. And, as a group, non-linearized amateur radio transmitter linearity is pretty poor, with IMD products in the -30 to -40dBc range. That's why PureSignal is so awesome. It can take that mess and reduce IMD products down to about -60dBc.

Can I assume the cable mentioned is the only hardware needed to connect my 8000 to
my LA-1K ? Thank you

You mean besides a main RF cable and PTT cable? Yes.

Which terminal on rear of 8000 corresponds to the" RX Bypass Output" mentioned on earlier Anans (PS Input) ?
Trying to connect to Palstar LA-1K Pure Signal input. Thank You

On the 8000 you remove the coax jumper on the PS connectors and apply the external coupler signal to the PS Input connector.

Here's my 1st attempt running 500 watts cable from Palstar amp to 8000.
Any comments would be helpful. Thanks

The data shown on the AmpView display looks not so good. Linear, but those lines should be filled in more, and the blue line should not make a "loop". What does it look like with the Low Res box unchecked, what does the DUP display look like, i.e. what kind of IMD products are you getting?

Do I need to terminate open terminal "Feed Back Input" on the rear of my 8000 ?

Setup > General > Ant/Filters > Antenna. This is for all models with a Bypass input (not the -10 series, not the 8000).

Since you have an 8000 you will not find this option available for your radio, so no need to look ;)
