Hi

Brand new to this community after placing an order for a New ANAN G1.

While I am not a beginner on ham radio and new equipment, other than SDR UNO I have no other experience as regards ANAN and all the software.

My first question is how much pc equipment(cpu and ram) will I need?

I will have a short run of CAT 5 to my Xfinity router....but living in semi rural VermonT(where all service is over above ground phone lines), I am not sure what I have for spped!.

Thank you for any help with these basic questions.

Assuming you will run the Thetis client software on the PC, Thetis benefits from a lot of cores, and after that a reasonably speedy CPU. Where Intel CPUs are concerned, any i7 or i9 with 8 or more cores will work very well. An i5 or better with 4 or more cores is adequate if you are budget constrained.

Thetis does not need a ton of RAM. However, any modern Windows machine needs a minimum of 16G, and 32GB is quite comfortable and speedy for most uses.

Mass storage performance is not important for Thetis, any SSD will do fine.

Similarly, the required GPU performance is not at all demanding. Thetis runs fine at 30Hz frame rates, 60Hz performance is nice to have. It is difficult to get Thetis to run faster than 60Hz, so there is no reason to invest in "gamer" level of performance like a 120Hz capable GPU or monitor unless you plan to use the PC for gaming.

Internet speed is not a factor, other than for downloading software updates.

The radio works a lot better with a dedicated Ethernet connection direct from PC to the G1 that is separate from the connection from the PC to the router. Most folks will use WiFi for connection to the internet and use the wired Ethernet port to connect to the G1.

If you are not up to speed on Windows networking configuration, now is the time to start studying that subject before the G1 shows up.

Scott, the G1 doesn't come with a front panel. Just the G2 series.
