Anan 200D audio outpt problem.

Post by qst »

I connected my Anan 200D to the audio output of a Klipsch speaker cabinet using a 3.5mm stereo jack. The speakers have their own amplifier. After a few seconds of normal operation, the audio turns off and then on again. The speakers are fine because a Kenwood TS990 connected to them with the same cable works normally. No audio level adjustment helps. I connected the speakers to the headphone jack on the front of the Anan, and then the audio is constant. However, this solution isn't ideal because if I want to listen to my signal on a monitor, I have to plug in my headphones. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

The problem is that the TRS speaker jack on the rear, J27 on the schematic, is

- Not wired per any sort of standard, so it confuses anyone who does not read the available documentation. Only tip and ring are used, and neither is a ground connection.
- Is connected to the output of a speaker amplifier, U21, so the level is far too high for a line level input, like that on a powered speaker
- Only carries the left channel output
- The speaker amplifier can be damaged if the tip and ring are connected across anything other than an 8 ohm speaker coil (per the U21 datasheet).

Bottom line: DON'T use it to run powered speakers or anything else other than a passive, unpowered speaker. And never, EVER, connect the tip or ring to ground, or connect to the shield part of the TRS.

The best way to drive powered speakers with a 200D is to use the line level audio outputs from the DB25 accessory connector.
