Thank you, Mark! It's important to point out we've got a great community here, with lots of people contributing. At almost 1300 members this is, by far, the largest conclave of Apache users by about a factor of 5. The knowledgebase we've accumulated here is second to none! Many thanks to all for their contributions!

Since it is difficult to get information from Apache Labs, I would like to get information on the "lead time" for delivery for the Andromeda would be. For all other devices there is an information on the website for the Andromeda only information on a start of delivery in May 2021 are givven, which is not of great help to me.
I need the information to find out which of the different radios I would order.

Thanks for helping

Martin,

I don't think anyone on the forum can answer your question except for the actual factory folks. The closest they have come to providing actionable data in recent memory was their post on 22 Nov here: https://apache-labs.com/community/viewt ... f=3&t=3436

Not very helpful, I know.

Thanks Scott,
indeed not really helpful.
Al what is seen is a reference back to the website were lead times are indicated for the various Anan 700o Versions. But nothing clear on the andromeda which is my favourite.

It seems as I would be forced to look for a product from the big manufacturers. Which is quite unfortunate.

It is most likely not the best place to ask this question, but I do not find a better one.
Can anyone clarify in which currency the prices on the Apache website are given? is it Australian or US Dollars?

thank and marry Christmas

When I purchased my 7000 DLE here in the US the price I saw and paid was in US Dollars. I do not know if they have a way to indicate prices in different countries. Hope this helps.

For those radios purchased in December, is the 6 to 8 week lead time on the web site accurate?

Thanks, Dan

Thanks, Dan

Tony told me in an email on December 12, "The lead time for the Andromeda is currently 10-12 weeks for new orders".

I guess we can just keep hoping.

It is my understanding that it has ALREADY been retired (which I hate to see happen). Obviously, radios are not primarily focused on aesthetics; the primary focus is on performance - as it should be. But IMHO the i5 / i7 had reached the pinnacle of appearance. Each one looked like it was made by master craftsmen, with top quality material, brushed aluminum, solid & perfectly positioned handles, etc. I am sure no one wanted to see the appearance downgraded to the point where they now look more like a "kit" radio. I may receive some unfavorable replies, but I can't help but believe that others feel as I do. In fact, even though I had planned on eventually buying a second ANAN 7000 DLE MKII "Black" Version, I immediately placed my order as soon as I saw the cosmetic changes to the current i5 / i7 ANAN. I am hoping I will receive my second Black ANAN before any external changes are made to this model. I am sure logistic issues, material shortages, cost factors, moving part of production to India, etc. - all played a role in the cosmetic changes; nonetheless, for me, it is disheartening. But I am exceedingly grateful for the ANAN in any package, whatever the appearance may be, because no other radio is even in its league. If it was housed in a tin can, I would still have an ANAN as my only radio! I just hate to see such a dramatic change in appearance.

I hated to see the nice cabinets go away too. I'm gald I bought my 7000 dle mk2 (no internal PC) when I did. When it craps out I hope the current model will fit the old case.

Newly registered forum member here with a question or two about currently shipping Anan 7000DLE MKII black face versions.

1) Do they ship with protocol version 1 or version 2 firmware?

2) Do customers have the option to specify which version of firmware they wish to have installed in their model 7000? If we do have a choice, how do we specify and ensure the proper version of firmware is preloaded at the factory?

3) Although I realize that Thetis software will now work with either protocol version 1 or version 2 firmware, is there any additional advantages to protocol 2 apart from gigabit ethernet capability?

Any feedback regarding my above questions would certainly be appreciated before I go ahead and place an order.

AFAIK (I am not an Apache employee or agent):

- All hardware is delivered with Protocol 1 firmware installed

- There is no opportunity to specify which firmware is installed.

Protocol 2 allows operation at higher IF sample rates with Thetis. You can utilize 384, 768 and 1536KHz sample rates. Thetis with Protocol 1 is limited to 192KHz.

Protocol 2 allows full QSK operation with Thetis on the 7000, Protocol 1 does not.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

It is disconcerting to hear that there is no way to specify which firmware is installed prior to shipping; especially in light of the fact that I have read of some users "bricking" their radios after attempting to install upgrades. Given the fact that there is no technical, software or repair support in Canada; it makes the decision to purchase a unit that much more difficult. I will need to contemplate matters further.

In any case; thank you again for your informative response.

Post by w-u-2-o »

"Bricking" is a a very, VERY rare occurrence, and I would not worry about it. Most of the incidences of "bricking" occurred because of a memory configuration mistake made at the factory in a batch of new units that came out immediately after a part number change to the memory IC. Nothing like that has happened for a long time since. The design is expressly made to make bricking a unit almost impossible.

Also, it's not like the US repair facility is all that far away.

I would not let the possibility of "bricking" put you off to buying an Apache-Labs Anan. I've had my 7000 DLE mkII over two years now. I have loaded and tried different firmware many times. I've never had the slightest hiccup. You won't go wrong in the purchase of an Anan. The flexibility of the software has no match. Plus, with the help of some very great programmers, Thetis is improving in leaps and bounds. We also have the best in tech support and information, Scott WU2O. His knowledge has great depth. He has the forum memorized and can direct you to any information you might require.

So, Make the right purchase of an Anan. I've had mine just over 2 years now and I'm still having a blast.
