What causes this extra tone?

Thanks to Wu2o I have ft8 running on JTDX and MSHV (sort of).

The audio just sounds funny and the contacts are sparse. When I first start to TX the display looks awful but after a few seconds it clears up to dual tone signal. See pics. I thought I was over driving but ALC showing -1db or 0db. Is there some other setting that may be causing this or is it normal. Also when TX drops there is a lower tone for a fraction of a second.

Running VMBanana x64 with MME drivers buffer 2048 and sample rate of 48000.

Wow, that looks terrible on both transmit and receive

Turn on your DUP button. Always run with DUP on. This will show the output of the internal coupler (or external coupler if configured) and thus an actual measurement of the real output and not a computed one.

Next, I recommend you copy my display settings in order to get a better look at how bad bad is. Adjust spectrum grid as required, of course.

Next, go to the Windows Sound Control panel and look at the advanced settings for the Voicemeeter devices you are using. Make sure they are all set to 48KHz sampling rate.

Let's see what happens after that.

Please report out on if you are seeing a lot of VAC under or overflows.

Finally, "two tone" is not what you are seeing on FT8. FT8 is CP8SK, so eight tones, one at a time.

Running Thetis 2.10.3.7 and JTDX. Using MME and VM Banana x64. It is working and making some contacts but I think there is still a problem.

The sig looks a bit distorted when it starts but clears up after a few seconds. But there is a lower level signal be transmitted along with the main one. See pic....

What could be causing this? Does not happen with a SunSDRPro2 using TCI and TCI audio.

We were going to unravel this issue in your first thread on FT8, but it's a moot point now since you are selling the ANAN.

So I have been pulling my hair out all day. Just won't run on my new AMD Ryzen 9 powered maching with 32Gb ram. Badly distorted audio.

So after having tried everything I can think of, I ran Thetis on my Intel I9 13900. RUNS Perfect.....no distorted audio from JTDX or WSJTX using VAC. Nice pure tone.

So...is there known issues using an AMD Ryzen processor on a gigabit MB B650 AORUS Elite. This was built as a gaming computer and thought it would be great for SDR.

Well.... somewhat solved. It was the computer though I don't know why. Installed Thetis on an I9 13900 mini pc (geekom) and no issues at all. Back to the amd ryzen 9 and distorted audio is back. Why? Reinstalled thetis and vac with no improvement.

I have merged all of your various topics into this single topic, since they all seem to be related to the same problem with digital audio setup on the Ryzen.

There is no easy answer that will not require you to do some investigation and report results and screenshots here. If this is something you'd like to pursue then please post that and we can try to do some debugging.
