G2 - How to Create a NEW microSD card image

Post by StephenAE2S »

I have recently upgraded my Anan G2 to a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 with 8GB of RAM. There were no readily available images for the new system, so I created one.

While reading posts in this forum, I read where G2 owners were asking for step-by-step procedures for updating/upgrading their radios.
I hope folks find this procedure useful.

The attached procedure can be used for either the CM4 or the CM5 version of Raspberry Pi.
It was designed for the BlackFace with no display.
Since I do not have a G2 with a display screen, I cannot give instructions on how to set that part up. However, all steps and procedures are applicable to all Anan G2 radios. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using the latest and greatest 64-Bit version of the Raspberry Pi OS, it’s called Bookworm at the time of this writing.

Thanks so much for posting this. My attempts to date haven’t gone well. Now I have a nice weekend project and can hopefully put the screws back in the cover after one. Vin KD1GA.

Great job, Stephen!
It would be great to find another Expert to expand these instructions to include the G2 with Display and the G2 Ultra.

Browse into the directory using folder view and make sure the file is there.

Worked great on the second attempt, bookworm and a Pi 5 module Had to run a few scrips from Jerry to get the P2 app to run at start up and another script to get the LED on the power button to behave correctly. G2 is working great with Thetis. The only thing that is still an issue is utilizing my second NIC, but all working well with the G2 on the network through a dumb switch. I’m going to set up the second NIC to access the internet and see if that works and advise. Thanks all for the help. Pi 5 module really improves the desktop experience and seems that P2 app is using less resources.
