Remote setup for G2 and 10E

Post by KC9RF »

How I setup My G2 for remote.

How I worked around power on/off of the G2
Thanks to a post on either groups IO or the community to look at J9 on the PI module.
There are two wires among many that are wired to the front panel pushbutton.
Colors are black and blue in my radio that go to J9 See attachment
I ran a small cable between the 9 pin connector and the back panel not to drill a hole in the back of the case
I soldered the 2 conductor cable as shown in the attached and taped connections
On the outside of the case I used power pole connectors for ease of connect/disconnection to my ethernet relay module.

There are many ways in hardware to implement. I already have an Denkovi 16R ethernet relay module. With Iphone app.
I set the relay up to pulse for .6 sec which works for on and off. The relay is a normally open contact that momentarly is on for the alloted time then turns off.

1.Set up real VNC so you can access the G2 PI from a PC for shut down. See Darren's N4VFR video to implement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osuz7XjkyGI&t=133s
            2. Setup remote desktop program to access your home PC from a laptop. I use chrome remote desktop and its free and works well.
            3. Make sure you can log in to your home PC
            4. Set up virtual serial pairs using free Com0com software on host or home computer. google it for download. I setup 4 pairs that work with Thetis
5 Setup at least two virtual audio ports on home or host computer being used for Thetis. Software I used is located at https://vac.muzychenko.net
            6. Pass audio from remote pc to host PC using Mumble clients. down load client software to each PC.
            7. Read this document from W1VE https://files.w1ve.com/Installing_and_C ... ations.pdf
8 install and run clients on each computer and connect to one of his servers examples are tampa.remote.radio or dallas.remote radio.
9 setup the mumble client on host AUDIO INPUT Line 1 (virtual audio cable) -- AUDIO OUTPUT Line 2 (virtual audio cable) see settings in Mumble
10 on remote pc I have Audio input WASapi Default device which is USB Mic- Audio Output Default device which is USB out or headphones.
11 in Thetis set up virtual audio VAC1 WASAPI Input Line 2 Virtual audio cable Output Line 1 Virtual audio cable. Set TX gain to suit audio
There are audio setings in both clients for mumble you will need to adjust to set correct audio levels.
you should be hearing audio from the radio without using remote desktop at this point if not go through mumble and thetis again to set levels.
now add chrome remote desktop on both computers. In chrome on the host turn speaker icon all the way down otherwise you will hear an echo.

            Other remote notes
Setup host at your shack for power on Boot in the BIOS- I find this to be the most reliable.
Use chrome remote desktop or remote desktop of your choice
Remote power on power supply or have on all the time for G2
Pulse relay on for G2 turn on
Check out Pi from remote VNC app to either run PI HPSDR or Thetis from Host (home PC)
For ANAN 10E just have power switch on and remote turn on power supply from your remote outlet app of your choice (See what I use Via KC9RF QRZ page drawing.)
Connect to host from remote pc via chrome run thetis then run mumble connect to Mumble server- remote PC connect to mumble server.
Use mox for PTT or another method of your choice
Don't use PTT in Mumble otherwise you will push the key then push mox on thetis. use continious in Mumble.

Turning off the G2 use real VNC from pc to pI and select shutdown from the pi menu then pulse the relay to shut down

I also control 2x6 coax switch, 2 rotors and SteppIR antenna, power on off for station power etc but thats another story

            Have fun
