Does the 7000DLE MKII have an internal fuse?

Post by K1LSB »

There is no fuse holder on the rear panel so I'm wondering if the radio has any fuse at all.

As a sidebar, the main reason I'm asking is because my fused power cord is bad, and I'm considering getting a plain cord without any inline fuses.

I've attached a couple of pics of the factory power cable fuse holder (the shrink tubing has been removed), the red wire was getting very hot at the supply-side crimp so I shaved away the insulation and saw that the crimp was just smashed over the insulation...good grief!

Anyway, is it safe (for the radio) to run a power cable with no inline fuse?

Thanks,
Mark

There is no internal fuse. An external fuse is necessary for safety. Overheated fuse connections on Apache cables used to be a common problem on models prior to the 7000. Thankfully the odd bad cable is now fairly unusual.

Thanks Scott. I've ordered a double-fused 10 gauge power cable, I'll await its arrival.
