Calculate number of taps from buffer size

Post by N4XD »

In thetis there is, under the DSP tab, the ability to change the buffer and filter size for each mode. I'm specifically interested in cw. My question has to do with ringing. If I understand correctly, reducing the number taps reduces the sharpness of the skirts of the filter and reduces the amount of ringing.

Is there a conversion equation for buffer and filter size (is the unit for both bits?) to number of taps? For example, how many taps does the buffer size of 64 represent?

Buffer size is measured in number of complex I-Q samples. Filter size is the number of filter taps. Lowering buffer size minimizes latency but has no effect on the number of filter taps. Likewise, changing the number of taps does not affect buffer size.
