NB effectiveness on static rain

Being on a hill top does have its pros but the high antenna can also be prone to the so called static rain, which is not really caused by the rain drops discharging on the antenna’s elements, I must say my experiences are exactly as per Tom’s one (https://www.w8ji.com/pecipitation_static.htm).

When this happens, I can either switch to the lower antenna, on which the phenomenon is much less pronounced, or as I discovered this morning, simply by switching ON the noise blanker (NB), in the past I never really thought it could be beaten that way, but to my surprise, as can be appreciated on the linked clip, the noise totally disappeared!!!

Yes the NB on Powersdr is the best I've seen so far for many types of unwanted noise..

Don't be afraid to try the other types of noise blanking and reduction. The various modes, NR, NR2, NB, NB2, and SNB are quite different from one another.

In particular, the Spectral Noise Blanker (SNB) is unbelievably good on certain types of noise. And NR2 is so good that many of us simply leave it turned on all of the time.
