I love the radio and don't want to return to Flex, but this situation is really frustrating. Thanks to you and Mark for all your help

Hi Jack,
On Dec 19 in the "Apache Labs News" sub-forum, they announced that their offices were closed through the holidays and would reopen Jan 4. Bad timing for you, unfortunately.
Sounds like, from all the postings above, that it would be a good idea to send your 8000 to Doug for a thorough a checkout.

Dear Bryan, Thanks for your input I have already contacted Doug and will send the radio for "tune up", but here's
something for Scott and Mark to ponder. I used Scotts walk through and set up radio to USE VAC1 ,from what I could tell
I had clean audio, recorded on Audacity ! But the radio doesn't transmit? Mark I down loaded the software you mentioned
but didn't install. Thanks again

In VAC setup make sure the bypass on PTT options are turned off. Then it will transmit with VAC audio.

Seriously? That should not be a problem. The maximum bias output of the TLV320AIC23B CODEC is 3ma. There is a 3.3K series resistor on the output circuit that would limit the 2.75V bias voltage (3/4 of the 3.3V supply voltage to the CODEC) to 0.75ma. So a short circuit should have no effect. There are two TSS5A3259A analog switches between the CODEC bias output and the microphone jack. These are rated for 200ma.
Bottom line: there is no way hot swapping microphones should damage any component.
Which IC was replaced? Do you know?
