CPU Recommendation: 2700X

I recently built up a new PC with a water cooled Ryzen 2700X and 32GB of 3200MHz RAM on an X470 chipset. It is a beast! Latency is low, and stays low with all loads, and and you hardly notice when HPSDR is running. Great LTSpice performance too -- highly recommended.

Nice build Clyde! It's great to have all that horsepower under the hood and also fun to watch it rip through any task you throw at it without flinching. It always amazes me how quickly computer hardware changes. Things like the newer SSD form factor that has changed so that now you can buy models that plug directly into a motherboard slot instead of using the SATA interface. It's hard to keep up!

I'm sure your aware of the new SSD form factor name, but for those who may not it is referred to as M.2 SSD. The M.2 cards utilize the PCI Express bus rather than the eSATA bus which bottle necks the speed of SSD. M.2 SSD drives are up to five times faster than eSATA SSD drives for not much more money. HIGHLY recommended, but be sure your MOBO has M.2 ports. If so, most will have two on the MOBO.

Thanks for the M.2 SSD name for these slot-mounted drives. A 5X speed boost is a very significant performance improvement! I can feel that urge beginning to take hold to build another "fire breathing beast".

Yes, I used a Samsung 970 Pro 1TB M.2 SSD, and it is a marvel. The Samsung Data Migration software is perfect to transfer a bootable image to a new SSD from an HD or smaller SSD. I also recommend Acronis True Image Backup 2019. I had an occasion to restore individual files and then a full restore of multiple disks and it it did both flawlessly and fast. I have been disappointed by several backup programs in the past, suffering data and history losses, and it's nice to see a product that works as expected.
