Hello everyone.
I have a question with regards to whether or not it is possible to use a Windows 7 operating system with an older high end MSI gaming laptop to run a model 7000DLE MKII (black face version) programmed for protocol 2 with the current version of Thetis software?
The laptop has an I7 QM3610 processor running at 2.3Ghz, 12 Gigs of ram, a 500Gig SSD, 750Gig spinning drive, 3Gig of video memory and a Gigabit ethernet port.
I will be purchasing the Anan 7000DLE MKII (black face) tomorrow from another ham operator who is using Windows 11 on his current PC to operate the radio running the latest version of Thetis.
So my questions are as follows:
1). Will I be able to use the radio with my gaming laptop as indicated above with Windows 7 or will it be necessary to update my Windows OS?
2). Should I download the older version of Thetis 2.10.3.5 Final or the most recent 2.10.3.6 dev_8?
3). In terms of the microphone audio connections, do I need to completely rely on physically connecting my Heil PR-40 microphone to the input jack on the front of the radio or can I use a USB Logitech boom mic headset to my laptop as an alternate method?
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

What are minimum OS requirements?
Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
Windows 7 should be fine, even with the latest, bleeding edge version of Thetis. However, there is some practical minimum level of DirectX video driver support that is needed. If you run into any problems that will probably be where they are. Update your video drivers to the maximum extent possible under Win7.
That said, and of course it is a horrible chore, but upgrading to the latest version of Windows your hardware will support is highly recommended. Win7 is end-of-life and security patches are no longer being produced.
You can use your USB microphone. You will need to read up on how to setup the so-called "VAC" interface in Thetis. There are a lot of discussions about how to do this (and not do it
) in the following sub-forum: viewforum.php?f=13
If you do decide to interface the PR40 please make sure you understand the pinout of the mic connector on the ANAN and build a proper cable or adapter. The pinout on the Apache mic connector is unlike any other radio out there and it generates all sort of stress for newbies.

Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
Just a couple of quick comments, Yes the latest Thetis will run fine on a win 7 box...Mine is currently running 2.10.3.6 dev_8b with a 7K blackface and P2 on a dedicated off network win 7 setup (because it never is shut off and is stupid stable), With that said there are a couple of minor things that will not work anymore on Win 7...The Voltage/Current and system load will not display due to the way the CPU resources are pulled from the OS perfmon data which is different from win 10 on....This all started back at version 2.10.3.0 when the .NET framework was changed and it wouldn`t run under Win7 at all..I had some lengthy emails with Richie and it was resolved...Knowing I`m going to change this PC out soon i`ve never worried about it...I`ll leave it at this...the most current win7 drivers specifically DirectX and Video are very important if you want it to run decent...

Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
Thank you gentlemen for your quick and informative responses. The info you provided was most helpful and reassuring.
I completed the purchase of the 7000 DLE MKII black face radio earlier this afternoon and spent some time configuring my laptop computer to get things operational to a basic level. At first; I discovered that the radio and computer were not communicating at all, but it turned out that there was corrupted driver software for the gigabit ethernet card. After downloading a new driver program that problem was solved and I configured the NIC for appropriate static IP addresses and subnet masks (per a very handy cheat sheet provided by the thoughtful seller) and voila; the current Thetis software control program came to life!
According to performance monitoring in Windows 7, it appears there is approximately 17% to 25% CPU utilization when running Thetis, but hopefully that will go down after tweaking some parameters. Also; I am seeing two alternating and repeating error messages highlighted in red text just below the waterfall screen in Thetis. They read as follows:
Sequence error: 264 (DDC2 Mic)
Sequence error : 8 (DDC2)
I seem to recall seeing something in the forums about sequence errors and will do some more digging to see if I can resolve these two errors.
Presently; I am listening to audio on my laptop computer by clicking on the VAC1 button. Will also look further to see how I can configure audio routing to utilize a Logitech boom mic headset for transmitting and receiving. It is an initial steep learning curve, but I have a great deal of patience and am sure that things should turn out well eventually.
Thank you again for your kind assistance gentlemen.

Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
I followed all the suggestions made above and my video drivers are up to date. Thetis appears to be running fine on my windows 7 laptop despite the constant sequence errors as noted above, although cpu utilization hovers in the 17% to 25% range.
I was just wondering if the sequence errors are somehow related to the fact I am using Win 7 OS and would they disappear if I upgraded to Win 10 or Win 11?
Also wondering if 17% to 25% cpu utilization is "typical" given the Win 7 OS and the hardware configuration of my I7 based laptop noted above?
Any comments or advice would be most welcome.

Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
Launch Thetis in Admin mode, then go to Setup\General and tick "Network Throttle Index Tweak".
Restart Thetis and try

Re: What are minimum OS requirements?
Hi John , I did notice some improvements in performance when I upgraded to Win 10 from 7 some years back.

Unless you are hearing audio pops clicks or dropouts on receive and similiar on tx sequence error not a worry. At higher sampling rates you may discover rx audio gets nasty if you are underpowered. Newer version processors whether win 10 or 11 may have more cores than your older win 7 machine that is apparently desirable. I use old Win 7 laptop and slightly newer Win 10
I 5 and an I7 desktop. The many generations old win 7 laptop only shows some difficulty at highest sample rates. Invoking pure signal NR2 and sonetimes combination of processor intensive options may show up as occasional dropouts if hardware is stressed enough. Win version not the whole story.
Running latest Thetis. .. 8b rev on 200D
And 8000dle.
