G2 Ultra with Thetis and Q5 Common IF transveter

Post by W9BS »

Hello. Been spinning my wheels for a few days trying to get this working, but I am at a loss at this point.

I recently got a Anan G2 Ultra, which I am very pleased with. However, I can't seem to get it working with my Q5 transverter with common IF that I was using on my Flex. I can get it to receive just fine when I go into the BNC transverter in port, but no transmit. When I switch to the SMA transverter port, I get transmit, but no RX. Sounds like it is picking up some beacons off of 10m, but is certainly not receiving the signal from the transverter. However, it is transmitting on the proper frequency.

I won't list all the different things that I have tried here, since I went down the rabbit hole. I am out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As an update, I am getting the exact same results when I use the front panel with PhiSDR, Not getting any receive from the transverter on the SMA port, but TX is OK. RX from the transverter is fine when I connect it to the BNC Transverter In, but I have no transmit.

Since this problem is evident on both Thetis, and PhiSDR, I am wondering if I have a hardware issue now. I shudder to think about having to ship this thing back after only having it for a week. So far, this is the only problem during my grinding setup over the last week that I have not been able to solve. When there is a problem, I always suspect software. Hardware issues will always send me down a rabbit hole trying to troubleshoot software issues that don't exist.

After several days of fighting this, and countless searches, I have come to the conclusion that the G2 simply won't work with a common IF transverter. Unfortunately, this means that I will have to send my Q5 transverter back to Q5 to be modified for a split IF. Maybe at some point in the future, Apache Labs will address this, or at least make it clear in the docs, that transverter must be configured for split IF in order to work with the G2. This has caused me much grief.

I am new to transverters, so this is useful information for me, thank you.

Do you know, which IF Drive Level you have configured on your Q5 transverter?

I assume it would be "0dBm to +20dBm ", but I want to be sure.

That is correct. 0dbm to +20dbm.
